An important element of being productive is knowing yourself. Many people get frustrated and become unproductive through trying systems that do not suit their particular personality, learning style or skills. To be truly fulfilled you need to know who you are and how you function best.
The first thing you should consider is your particular personality. Some people are naturally more disorganized than others, but organization is an important key in productivity. The disorganized person needs to find an organizational system that suits their particular personality and that they do not find restricting. There are also other aspects of your personality that will influence your productivity and how you work best - are you a people's person or an introvert? Are you logical or artistic? Learn to work with your personality and temperament to get the best results in terms of productivity.
Know your goals. In order to be productive you need to know what it is you are working towards. You need to be clear on what activities are important to reaching your goals and what activities are unnecessary and could be wasting your time. Take some time to think about where you are going with your life and how you plan on getting there and then do those activities that will bring the greatest results in achieving these goals.
Know your learning style. For many people learning is vital to their success. You may need to keep up to date on financial and economic indicators, do research for writing or college purposes, or do other business research. By using your particular learning style in doing this you will be able to use your learning time a lot more productively. If you learn best through listening to audio tapes then get more of your research materials on CD's, audio books and MP3's. If you learn best through visual stimulation then try drawing pictures to help you remember information. Only use the traditional note-taking and linear learning system if this works best for you.
Know your skills and how these can be best put to use. One of the reasons that many people fail in home-based business opportunities is that they do not match the opportunity to their skills. If you are skilled at website design then create and maintain your own website for your business, if not then get someone else to do it if you choose to work online. If you have a skill at art or music then see where you can use these to make money. Learn what your skills are and where they can best be used and don't try to be something that you are not.
Productivity depends on knowing yourself. You need to know your personality in order to determine what organizational systems are going to work best for you and how to get the most out of yourself; you need to know your goals to determine which activities are important. If you need to do any learning in your business then it is important that you know your learning style. Understanding your skills and how to use them is also important if you want to be successful and productive.
